October 2019 Book Releases – Part 1
I am SO behind with my reading this year! Despite having approximately a million books that I need to read, I can’t help getting excited for new releases. October has a great line up, particularly for YA fantasy novels. If you haven’t had chance to check them out yet, here are my top picks of October 2019 book releases to get you started.
The Beautiful
Title: The Beautiful
Author: Renée Ahdieh
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Published: 8th October 2019
Genre: YA Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Paranormal Romance
Synopsis: Goodreads Link
I couldn’t possibly pass up a vampire story that is releasing in October. There has been a lot of excitement about The Beautiful and reading the synopsis I can understand why. The story seems to be a blend of romance and murder mystery. Celine, fleeing her Parisian life as a dressmaker, is taken in by a convent alongside six other girls. New Orleans calls to Celine, the night life, the food and the… interesting company. The danger is exciting until the bodies of convent girls begin to appear. There is little doubt that the darkest creatures in the underworld are involved but when Celine begins to investigate, she uncovers more than she bargained for.
Into the Crooked Place
Title: Into the Crooked Place
Author: Alexandra Christo
Publisher: Hot Keys Books
Published: 8th October 2019
Genre: YA Fantasy
Synopsis: Goodreads Link
I haven’t managed to read To Kill a Kingdom yet but if you are a fan then you are probably very excited about Alexandra Christo’s latest offering! This is the first book in a new duology set on the streets of Creije. Some people know that having magic up your sleeve can help you survive, especially Tavia, Wesley, Karam, and Saxony. Sometimes though, magic can have disastrous outcomes, including accidentally sparking the greatest conflict in decades. When you can’t trust anyone but yourself, can four magical outsiders come together to save everything?
Shadow Frost
Title: Shadow Frost
Author: Coco Ma
Publisher: Blackstone Publishing
Published: 1st October 2019
Genre: YA Fantasy
Synopsis: Goodreads Link
I ADORE the cover of this book! The colours and the image are both gorgeous. I also love the name of the protagonist, Asterin Faelenhart, Princess of Axaria. To me, the name sounds just like a fantasy princess’ name should sound. I know, I am strange. Anyhow. The synopsis certainly ticks my boxes for YA fantasy including a mission to slay a monster, a plot to assassinate the princess and, of course, some good friends to share the adventure with. I’m excited to read Coco Ma’s debut!
The Never Tilting World
Title: The Never Tilting World
Author: Rin Chupeco
Publisher: HarperTeen
Published: 15th October 2019
Genre: YA Fantasy, LGBT+ rep.
Synopsis: Goodreads link
I requested an advanced reader copy of this book but unfortunately I wasn’t that lucky! However, it means that I am really looking forward to getting my hands on a finished copy. This is another October 2019 book release where the cover has sold me the book before I even read the synopsis. It is SO pretty! The Never Tilting World has been described as a cross between Frozen and Mad Max, which sounds very weird but also extremely cool.
Twin goddesses have ruled Aeon for generations but when one sister betrays an ancient prophecy their world split in two. One twin rules the frozen city of Aranth, which exists in perpetual night. The other twin rules a desert city, which exists in unrelenting sun because the planet no longer spins. Each twin’s daughter sets out to try to mend their broken world as they are called back to where it began, the site of the Breaking. There is sure to be a sacrifice but who will pay it?
Angel Mage
Title: Angel Mage
Author: Garth Nix
Publisher: Gollancz
Published: 17th October 2019
Genre: YA Fantasy
Synopsis: Goodreads Link
A huge release for fans of Garth Nix and his other works such as Sabriel! Angel Mage promises to be a great read and I’m sure will be featuring in a couple of book box subscriptions this month. I suspect that my partner will be stealing my copy to read first but I guess that just means he has to review it too!
Lilath is a powerful practitioner of angelic magic on a quest to be reunited with her lover, the archangel Palleniel. Waking from a magical sleep Lilath enlists the help of four strangers who hold the keys to her quest. Little do they know of the role they will play in her schemes or the price she is willing to pay to succeed.
