FairyLoot Unboxing – May 2018 (Spoilers!)

Save the Kingdom!

My Fairy Loot came super early this month! Perhaps it feels even earlier because it’s not that long since I received my April box. When FairyLoot announced the theme I was really excited. The artwork was gorgeous! It brings together memories of some of my favourite stories and characters, including the previously featured The Last Namasara. Who doesn’t like a female knight?!

Book of the Month

The book of the month is Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett. I am part of the ‘book box sherlocks’ group on facebook, who like to guess the books for the upcoming boxes so I wasn’t surprised to see that it was this book. It has been on my ‘want to read’ section of Goodreads for ages. I think all I need to say is IT HAS DRAGONS but:

“They call her Traitor Kate. It’s a title Kate Brighton inherited from her father after he tried to assassinate the high king of Rime.
Cast out of the nobility, Kate now works for the royal courier service. Only the most skilled ride for the Relay and only the fastest survive, for when night falls, the drakes—deadly flightless dragons—come out to hunt. Fortunately, Kate has a secret edge: She is a wilder, born with forbidden magic that allows her to influence the minds of animals.
And it’s this magic that leads her to a caravan massacred by drakes in broad daylight—the only survivor Corwin Tormaine, the son of the king. Her first love, the boy she swore to forget after he condemned her father to death.
With their paths once more entangled, Kate and Corwin must put the past behind them to face this new threat and an even darker menace stirring in the kingdom.”

Exclusive Loot

This is definitely a great month for anyone who likes beauty items with both a bath bomb and a lip scrub! Little Hearts Gifts is a company I haven’t come across before but the products on their website look fantastic. The bath bomb is themed on the book of the month and it is beautiful! I thought the Norgard box was lovely but inside is a glittery blue-green castle shaped bath bomb! I will add a picture of the bathbomb later as the ones I’ve taken of it in it’s plastic wrapping don’t do it any justice (and I didn’t want it to crumble until I could get it in the bath). The scent is ‘moonstones and berries’, which is really light, fruity and fresh.

Geeky Clean products I have used before so I know that they are always very good quality. FairyLoot have featured them a few times, including their themed lip balms and I’m glad to see them featured again. According to the spoiler card there are three different lip scrubs – Dalbreck, Morrighan and Venda. I assume that each sugar-based scrub has a different flavour but the Dalbreck flavour is melon! I love melon so I am very happy. Both the bath bomb and the lip scrub are cruelty-free and vegan, which makes me so happy. I genuinely appreciate the efforts that FairyLoot go to provide products that are suitable for everyone. Plus, who wants beauty products that are unnecessarily tested on animals in 2018?! The breakfast tea is also vegan and will be a welcome addition to my rather large tea collection.

I’m a huge Evie Bookish fan so was really happy to see her design on a coaster. I love bookish coasters and the quote on this one from The Winner’s Kiss is great “You are your own best weapon.” Another fantastic quote is on the book sleeve! A book sleeve was the announced item of this month’s box and this one is great. Book sleeves are really useful (especially when you have a boyfriend who isn’t quite as OCD with your books as you are). It is very good quality like the last book sleeve and is waterproof!

The most unusual item in the box is the set of wyrd mark page flags. They are going to be so useful for my book reviews as I am always going back through books to find quotes that I liked or particular character references. The flags say ‘By the wyrd!’, ‘Epic Quote’, ‘Swooooon!’ and ‘Plot Twist!’ I do love useful bookish items!

Lastly there are the two beautiful art prints and the two bonus items of a Legendary tarot card and a Smoke in the Sun bookmark.

My Thoughts

I think the May ‘Save the Kingdom’ box is a really nice box and I am very happy that I continued my subscription. I like all the individual items and there is a good mix of better known and lesser known companies that they have been curated from. My favourite items are the coaster and book sleeve. I am looking forward to finding out what the other flavours of lip scrub are! Which item was your favourite this month?

My May Fairyloot box hasn’t shipped yet, but I was so sure that Onyx & Ivory was going to be the book, so I just HAD to view your post to see if I was right. Yay yay yay! I actually read a library copy of O&I this weekend and LOVED it, so I’m super glad I’ll have a copy of my own soon 😀

The sprayed edges are black and look sooo good on the hardcover 🙂 I should have mentioned that…. It’s honestly stunning! I love exclusive editions 🙂

I loved this box! Those ToG post its are awesome! I’ll probably never use them, because I like just owning it as a ToG fandom treasure if that makes sense? The art print irks me slightly because Kate is supposed to have dark hair.. not light brown. I already ordered June’s box and I’m thinking I’ll get July’s because the featured book is one that I really want to read.
