January 2021 Book Releases
2020 is finally over and what better way to celebrate than to check out the exciting January 2021 book releases?! Not only are there some great stand alone books but a lot of sequels and new series to check out too. I think there is a really great mix of books to sink your teeth into. Here are my top picks to get you started this month.
Lore
I love Greek mythology and am super excited about the release of Lore! It is my top pick from all of the new January 2021 book releases. The Agon, a hunt of Greek gods who are temporarily mortal, happens every seven years. Lore is part of an ancient bloodline of hunters, who aim to claim the divine power and immortality of the Earth walking gods. After her family are murdered by a rival line she turns her back on the hunt and her inner call to revenge them. When two participants seek her out however, a childhood friend and Athena herself, her fate is becomes bound to them. Her decision comes at a deadly cost but she must try to stop the rise of a new god who would bring humanity to its knees.
Cast in Firelight
This is the first book in a new fantasy duology, which has the potential to become a trilogy, that is recommended to fans of Sabaa Tahir and Hafsah Faizal. I’ve had my eye on this book for a while after discovering it in a conversation about book covers. Do you recognise the popular artist? In this book two royal heirs are betrothed to be married in order to cement the alliance of Wickery’s most powerful kingdoms. Adraa and Jatin, a witch and wizard respectively, have been rivals from afar rather than sweethearts. When their paths cross accidentally during an uprising, they adopt secret identities thus not recognising each other. Together will they get to the heart of the threat to Wickery’s fate? Whatever happens, their relationship is definitely getting increasingly complicated….
A Complicated Love Story Set in Space
The title of the year goes to… yes, I realise it is January but still this is a title that makes you want to read the synopsis despite is being self-explanatory. Two boys are lost in space and try to find their way home whilst falling in love. Along with Jenny, a DJ on board the Qriosity ship, they face many dangers. These include murder, aliens and, worst of all, a school dance. This book sounds delightfully eccentric and I can’t wait to read it.
The Girls I’ve Been
A film adaptation of this book is already in the works, starring Millie Bobby Brown. I love the sound of this book as the premise is that a con artist’s daughter ends up as an innocent bystander in a bank heist. It sound really fun and I will be picking it up very soon.
Exciting Sequels
- A Vow So Bold and Deadly (Cursebreakers #3) by Brigid Kemmerer
- We Free the Stars (Sands of Arawiya #2) by Hafsah Faizal
- Winterkeep (Graceling Realm #4) by Kristin Cashore
- Concrete Rose (The Hate U Give #0) by Angie Thomas
- Written in Starlight (Woven in Moonlight #2) by Isabel Ibañez
- Soul of Cinder (Heart of Thorns #3) by Bree Barton
