FairyLoot October Unboxing – Love At First Bite

FairyLoot has nailed the Autumn season this year! For September we had a witch themed box and October is a vampire themed box. It has been a while since I have delved into a YA vampire novel and I am very excited for this month’s book. Without further ado, here is my FairyLoot October unboxing of the “Love at First Bite” box.

The Beautiful

The Beautiful, Sprayed Edges, Book

Title: The Beautiful

Author: Renée Ahdieh

Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton

Published: 8th October 2019

Genre: YA Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Paranormal Romance

Synopsis: Goodreads Link

Amazon: Affiliate Link

I have been excited about reading The Beautiful ever since I read the synopsis. I even included it in my top October book releases post. The story seems to be a blend of romance and murder mystery. Celine, fleeing her Parisian life as a dressmaker, is taken in by a convent alongside six other girls. New Orleans calls to Celine, the night life, the food and the… interesting company. The danger is exciting until the bodies of convent girls begin to appear. There is little doubt that the darkest creatures in the underworld are involved but when Celine begins to investigate, she uncovers more than she bargained for. There has been a big social media buzz about The Beautiful so I have really high hopes!

Reverse Dust Jacket Artwork of The Beautiful

The FairyLoot ‘Love at First Bite’ special edition of The Beautiful is… well… beautiful! I am so excited to have artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket! I have been eyeing up LitJoy book boxes* for their regular reverse dust jacket art so I am thrilled that FairyLoot has decided to do it too! It is designed by @merwildandco. I haven’t read the book yet but I am looking forward to being able to identify the characters. The sprayed edges are a gorgeous colour and the book is also signed by the author <3

Love at First Bite Items

I find it really interesting that FairyLoot has created another box which is mainly fandom neutral. I have mixed feelings about this as there are some fantastic characters that could have gone into this box but I love that it is accessible for everyone. It can be annoying when you receive an item that you don’t really get because you don’t know the fandom. Here is what is in the box:

‘My Last Sunrise’ Candle

The announced item for the Love at First Bite box was a hand-poured candle created by Raquel @themeltinglibrary. It is great to discover new companies and as this is a US company I have not had a candle from Raquel before. The candle is themed on An Interview With A Vampire by Anne Rice. It has a cute quote on paper inside and smells of blood orange. It does smell really yummy so I am looking forward to seeing how well it burns.

Book Sleeve

“There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights.”

Bram Stoker, Dracula

YES! I am really pleased to see a book sleeve WITH A ZIP! I love book sleeves and the zip will help to completely protect the book inside. This Dracula inspired Gothic design is honestly wonderful. My only criticism is that it is very hard to read the quote, which is a shame as it is a BRILLIANT quote. It is an excellent book sleeve designed by @noverantale and I know I will use it a lot!

Beanie

I LOVE this beanie. It is simple, perfect for the theme and has arrived at just the right time. True to the ‘Love at First Bite’ theme the design simply says “Bite Me” and is by @kdpletters. I am really surprised that they didn’t announce that they were including a beanie as they are always really popular!

Coasters

Though I don’t really need any more coasters, I can’t help but love these! The designs by @blanca.design are fabulous. The coasters completely encapsulate Gothic literature, with the rose being my absolute favourite.

Pin Badge

Pin badges are always a welcome addition for me as I now have multiple pin banners to fill up! The small, simple and cute bat designed by @Taratjah will fit in anywhere. It would be lovely to wear on a jacket or bag, especially coming up to Halloween!

Sticker

“I like the night. Without the dark we’d never see the stars.”

Stephenie Meyer, Twilight

FairyLoot are right that no vampire box would be complete without a Twilight item. The design by @catarinabookdesigns is lovely and they have chosen a great quote. I never know what to do with stickers! I always worry about sticking them on something that I will replace. Suggestions welcome!

Art Prints

I always love @Taratjah‘s artwork! This month’s vampire print is fabulous. @monolime‘s vampire print is nice too. Included in the box is also a map of New Orleans, which is the setting of The Beautiful. The tarot cards are beautiful and I can’t wait to have a complete collection, which I intend to frame!

My Thoughts

I think that the “Love at First Bite” October box is a really great box and it actually worked really nicely being mainly fandom neutral. There are two cloth items, which are of high value as well as really nice smaller items. I am so surprised that they didn’t announce either the beanie or the book sleeve as a featured item! The beanie is definitely my favourite item, particularly as it has got cold really fast outside. The simplicity of the design makes it very wearable and I think a lot of people will love it. Did you receive the October box? What do you think?
