Music for Relaxation
Happy Weekend!
Today has been a very sleepy Saturday. I was in need of a relaxing day so I had a long bath, caught up on my YouTube subscriptions and did a bit of blog hopping. There are so many brilliant blog posts this month and in high quantity thanks to #Blogtober! The best thing to pair with a relaxing day, other than a giant mug of hot chocolate, is the right music. I am definitely a mood listener when it comes to music these days! My tastes in music are quite wide but I have a soft spot for songs from musicals after studying theatre at University. When I need a relaxing day though my soundtrack tends to have fewer dramatic solos and more background friendly music.
Relaxing Music Selection
Here are some of my favourite artists for a relaxed atmosphere:
Ludovico Einaudi
An Italian classical pianist. His music has a lot of gentle repetition. I find it very soothing to listen to. I have positive connections with Einaudi’s work as it was some of the first music my partner introduced me to when we were first getting to know each other.
Favourite Album: Islands- Essential Einaudi
Favourite Song: I Giorni
Kate Rusby
Folk singer & songwriter. I originally discovered her music on iTunes when I had been listening to a lot of chillout music and it popped up in my ‘you may like this’. Between the tempo of a lot of her songs and her gentle voice, I am frequently put into an almost meditative state.
Favourite album: Underneath the Stars
Favourite Song: Who Will Sing Me Lullabies
Norah Jones
Singer, Songwriter and pianist. Winner of nine Grammy awards & named as the top jazz artist of 2000-2009 by Billboard magazine. I love the richness of her voice and the variety of her music. Styles she is known for include jazz, folk and pop.
Favourite Album: Come Away With Me
Favourite Song: Come Away With Me & Turn Me On (from Love Actually)
Chantal Kreviazuk
A Canadian singer, songwriter, composer, pianist & actress. I fell in love with Chantal’s music after listening to the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack and hearing the song “Feels Like Home”. It is still one of my favourite songs. I then discovered that she sang “Leaving on a Jet Plane” from the Armageddon soundtrack and basically bought all of her albums that were available at the time.
Favourite Album: What If It All Means Something
Favourite Song: Feels Like Home (this is one of my favourite songs of all time).
Sara Bareilles
I stumbled across Sara Bareilles music a few years ago and love the variety of her songs. Music genres include pop and soul. Originally made famous by her single “Love Song”, continuing her work to achieve six Grammy nominations. It’s hard to pick a favourite album as they are all very different. When I want something more upbeat I would go for the Little Voice album but for chill out it definitely has to be:
Favourite Album: Once Upon Another Time
Favourite Song: Bright Lights and Cityscapes
Rest & Relaxation
It is important that we take a bit of time for ourselves, even when we are really busy. I always find listening to a few relaxing songs helps me to wind down. Are you a mood listener when it comes to music? What music do you enjoy the most? Thank you for reading!

Loved this post. Norah Jones and Sara Bareilles are two of my favourites to listen to when I need to relax! ๐ They both just seem to create the perfect songs to switch off and forget the world.
I’m glad you enjoyed the post. I now have Snow Patrol’s ‘Chasing Cars’ in my head xD
