Are you excited about all of the fab February 2021 book releases? One of my most anticipated books of this year is coming out this month! There is so much to look forward to and I hope that this post will help you to find a book that you will fall in love with. After all, what else does a bookworm want to do on Valentines day? Just give me a comfy chair, hot chocolate and a good book. Let me know in the comments which books you are most looking forward to this month.
The Galaxy and the Ground Within
Title: The Galaxy and the Ground Within
Author: Becky Chambers
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Published: 18th February 2021
Genre: Science Fiction (Space Opera), LGBTQIAP+
Age Range: Adult
Goodreads: Add me here!
Of all of the February 2021 book releases, this is the book that I am most excited and sad about! I can’t believe that the Wayfarers series is coming to an end. It has been a wonderful exploration of humanity with a lot of great representation, particularly for the LGBTQIAP+ community. All of the books are character focused but also have fantastic world building. It is a universe I am going to miss. Although it is a series, each book stands alone in terms of characters and plot. I do recommend starting from the beginning but you could theoretically read The Galaxy and the Ground Within by itself.
Gora is an unremarkable planet but acts as a ‘truck stop’ on the way to more popular destinations. When a technological failure leads to all traffic being stopped, three strangers find themselves at the Five-Hop One-Stop. They are a cargo runner, an exiled artist and a rather mysterious individual, who are “compelled to confront where they’ve been, where they might go, and what they are, or could be, to each other”.
A Court of Silver Flames
Title: A Court of Silver Flames
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Published: 16th February 2021
Genre: Fantasy
Age Range: New adult
Goodreads: Add me here!
A Court of Silver Flames is definitely the most highly anticipated book on this list! I really enjoyed the last novella A Court of Frost and Starlight, which I reviewed here. This novella focuses on Feyre’s sister Nesta, who has been struggling to come to terms with what has happened to her. I don’t want to say too much as not everyone will have read the original trilogy! We can expect some raunchy scenes, Cassian and the return of the human queens. Bring it on!
A Dark and Hollow Star
Title: A Dark and Hollow Star
Author: Ashley Shuttleworth
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Published: 23rd February 2021
Genre: Fantasy, LGBTQIAP+
Age Range: Young Adult
Goodreads: Add me here!
Firstly, can we take a moment to appreciate how pretty this cover is?! A Dark and Hollow Star has been described as an urban fantasy, which is a mix between The Cruel Prince and City of Bones. I am really excited to dive into this tale where the eight fae courts have lived alongside humans for centuries, albeit concealed by magic. When a series of ritualistic murders threatens to expose the folk, four queer teens set out to track down the killer. In the background, there is a war brewing between the Mortal and Immortal realms, with one of the four teens destined to tip the scales one way or the other. This book is SO up my street and I can’t wait to see if it meets my, rather high, expectations!
The Gilded Ones
Title: The Gilded Ones
Author: Namina Forna
Publisher: Delacorte
Published: 9th February 2021
Genre: Fantasy
Age Range: Young Adult
Goodreads: Add me here!
The ARC of The Gilded Ones was highly sought after last year and reading the synopsis I can see why. Deka is sixteen and awaiting the blood ceremony which determines whether she can remain a member of her village. When her blood runs gold instead of red she is offered a choice: stay in the village to her fate or join a female army to fight for the emperor. The alaki are near-immortals with rare gifts and are the only ones who can stop the threats facing the empire. On her journey there are many surprises and nothing and no-one are quite what they seem.
The Iron Raven
Title: The Iron Raven (Evenfall #1)
Author: Julie Kagawa
Publisher: Inkyard Press
Published: 9th February 2021
Genre: Fantasy
Age Range: Young Adult
Goodreads: Add me here!
If you are familiar with Julie Kagawa’s The Iron Fey series then you will be thrilled to know that Puck is telling his own story. Meghan and Ash will also be making an appearance. Puck is King Oberon’s right-hand jester from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With promised faery antics and romance, now might be a good time to check out the original series ready for this new spin-off adventure.
