Books I Can’t Wait For – Six for Sunday
There are some books I can’t wait for! I am filled with child-like excitement at the thought of being able to read them. These books tend to be part of a series that I have already started or from an author I love. Some of them have no publication date or even a known timescale for writing. Here are six books that I am impatiently waiting for, hoping that I will have a copy in my hands soon.
Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
Title: Queen of Nothing
Author: Holly Black
Publisher: Hot Key Books
Published: 19th November 2019
Genre: YA Fantasy

I refuse to spoil the ending of the The Wicked King, but OMG Holly it is not fair to leave us like that! Although I really enjoyed The Cruel Prince, due to being behind with my reading I didn’t pick up the second book right away. Part of me wishes that I had waiting until closer to the release of book three, which is due to be published 19th November 2019. It is so close I can taste it!
The Folk of Air series is a wonderful adventure into the land of Faerie. We are talking about the true Fae; the self-interested tricksters who enjoy playing with the lives of mortals rather than the fairy godmother kind.
Peace Talks by Jim Butcher
Peace Talks is the next book in the Dresden Files series (#16). There is no official 2020 publication date but it is finished! I LOVE this urban fantasy series so much. The story focuses on Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only wizard-detective and the dark influences he fights to protect both his city and his friends. There are SO many amazing characters throughout the series including wizards, Fae, werewolves, vampires, demons, spirits and even Santa.
What I love the most about the Dresden Files is Harry’s character progression. In the first book his hubris is very much in line with the film-noir character that he initially portrays. As the books continue the reader sees what really matters to Harry; How a wizard with a lot of power has to fight to be good and to fight for what he believes in. The last book left him in an interesting position so I can’t wait to dive back in!
“As a series, Dresden trumps out everything else I’ve ever read, or am currently reading. That includes books I *overflow* with love for, like Lynch’s Gentleman Bastard series. Or Robin Hobb’s Farseer. Or Sanderson’s Mistborn…. As a series, The Dresden Files even beats out Pratchett’s Discworld. There. I said it.” – Patrick Rothfuss
Doors of Stone by Patrick Rothfuss
This is the final book in the Kingkiller Chronicles trilogy. Fans, including myself, have been waiting a long time for this one and there is still no indication of when it might be ready. It has been delayed by personal and family issues but it is coming!
If you haven’t read book one, The Name of the Wind, and are a fantasy fan then go and grab a copy immediately! It has been named as one of the best fantasy books of all time for a reason. The world building and story telling is second-to-none. Patrick Rothfuss is a master of the genre. The protagonist of the book is Kvothe, a travelling musician & part of the Edema Ruh. The story is full of magic, wonderful characters, mystery and adventure. I will never be able to recommend it enough.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Title: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes
Author: Suzanne Collins
Publisher: Scholastic

Genre: YA Dystopia

AHHHHHHHH! I am SO ready to jump back into the world of The Hunger Games. We now have an official title and release date (so get your day off booked!) We know that the story is set 64 years before the first novel, starting on the morning of the reaping for the Tenth Annual Hunger Games. If calculations are correct that means that it is a story featuring Mags! I can’t wait!
Heart of Flames by Nicki Pau-Preto
Title: Heart of Flames
Author: Nicki Pau-Preto
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Published: 11th February 2020
Genre: YA Fantasy

I loved Crown of Feathers, which I reviewed earlier this year (check out my review here). With well-developed characters, magic, phoenixes and unexpected plot twists, book one created a world that I can’t wait to dive back into. It is a fantastic YA fantasy, which I highly recommend! I am really excited that what was initially set to be a duology is now going to be a trilogy! There is so much potential with the world building in book one that I am not surprised that the whole story wouldn’t fit into only two books. If you like book boxes, it looks like Owlcrate may be doing something special for the releases of Heart of Flames so keep your eyes peeled!
Harley in the Sky by Akemi Dawn Bowman
Title: Harley in the Sky
Author: Akemi Dawn Bowman
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Published: 10th March 2020
Genre: YA Contemporary
Goodreads: Link

I am SO lucky to have an e-arc of Harley in the Sky, which I am going to be starting asap! Akemi is an amazing writer as I discovered when I read Summer Bird Blue earlier this year. She has a talent for writing about difficult topics with sensitivity & understanding.
Harley in the Sky explores the highs and lows of family relationships, chasing your dreams and dealing with consequences. In a world that is both beautiful & brutal, Harley in the Sky brings circus life into vivid reality. I am sure that I am going to laugh and cry at this book. If you like Akemi’s other books then grabbing a copy is a no-brainer. I will get a review up for you to check out as soon as I can!

I cannot wait for The Ballsd of Songbirds too
I may have been dreaming about it last night…. xD I know some people think it is just a cash cow but I love the world of The Hunger Games and have always wanted to experience other stories from previous games.
You’ve reminded me that I had promised myself to read The Dresden Files books this year – I’ve only read the first two! Eek! Thanks Delly ๐
I have wanted to try out one of Holly Black’s books and I have the first in that series. All the covers you shared look fantastic ๐ Very eye-catching.
It is a really good series (very hyped, but genuinely good). I’ve just finished the last book and am eagerly awaiting everyone’s thoughts now the series has concluded.
