Six for Sunday – 2 for 1 Audiobook Offer

Happy weekend! Have you listened to an audiobook recently? I love listening to audiobooks when I’m doing chores, driving, having a bath…. They are perfect for when I can’t sit down and physically read a book for whatever reason. I admit that I can be really picky when it comes to narrators though even when I am interested in the book. A few of my favourites are Stephen Fry, Katy Sobey, James Marsters and Aysha Kala. The reason why I love Audible is that you can listen to a good sample of any book before purchasing it so I know that I will enjoy the narration.

I have been an on-off member of Audible.co.uk since 2011. That is pretty crazy! Audible has some great 2 for 1 sales throughout the year and who doesn’t love a free book?! Their latest sale runs until 31st March and there are a lot of great titles! Here are the six I chose.

Six of Crows

The first in Leigh Bardugo’s duology that I have been promising to read for a long time! Taking a trip to Ketterdam we meet the criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. With heists, spies, thieves and heartrenders, the book promises to be action packed. I am really looking forward to meeting some interesting characters! Book two, Crooked Kingdom, is also in the 2 for 1 sale so you could pick both audiobooks up at the same time!

The Exact Opposite of Okay

I was really disappointed to miss Laura Steven at the Northern YA Literature Festival this year. When I listened to the audio sample of The Exact Opposite of Okay I immediately had to download it. The narration is wonderful and this will definitely be my first listen! The story is about 18 year old Izzy who has explicit photos of her published online against her will. She tries to fight the slut-shaming and the constant trolls with the help of her best friend but everything is not okay. I am sure this is going to be a great feminist, empowering read/listen.

Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

My partner stopped working when I played the audio sample of Never Let Me Go. He describes it as one of the most powerful books he has read in the last five years. Due to the fact he reads at the speed of Superman, that is a real compliment. A lot of people will have heard of this novel even if they haven’t read it yet. It is a harrowing contemporary novel where the characters almost don’t feel real but that is the point. Raised only to be organ donors, Ishiguro gives us an intimate look at lives as commodity. A theme that is very relevant today.

The Bone Season

Another author that I sadly missed at the NYA Lit Festival but who I am excited to see in April is Samantha Shannon! I am honestly embarrassed to still have The Bone Season on my TBR. The audiobook will be a great way for me to catch up though and the narrator immediately caught my attention. Set in a dystopian London in 2059, 19 year old Paige works in the criminal underworld. She is kidnapped and transported to a secret city, ruled by an otherworldly race. What do they want with her and will Paige manage to escape? I’m looking forward to finding out!

Fool Moon

This is the second book in The Dresden Files series. It is an urban fantasy based in Chicago where Harry Dresden, the country’s only wizard-detective works. Effectively this is a re-read for me as it is one of my favourite series of all time. It is a very long series but all of the early books can be read as a standalone. This book should not be confused with Full Moon from the Twilight series as this one has much cooler werewolves! Like the rest of the series it is read by James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) who is cast perfectly as Harry. Storm Front, book one, is also available in the audiobook sale if you fancy checking it out!

Throne of Glass

I have read this entire series up until the last book Kingdom of Ash. It has been so long since I devoured them one after the other that when I started reading book seven I was a little lost. Three of the books are in the 2 for 1 sale and I thought that the audiobook would be a great way to start refreshing my memory of the characters and storyline.

Celeana Sardothian is a famous assassin at only 18 years old. Tricked into capture she is sent to the salt mines to labor until she is offered an opportunity for freedom: she must act as the champion of Crown Prince Dorian in a competition to become the new royal assassin. When the other contestants keep turning up dead Calaena needs to figure out the killer before she becomes the next victim.

Audiobook Favourites

These were the books that I chose from the Audible sale. If I had more than 3 credits I could easily have bought more! I think that the selection on offer this time is great so if you like audiobooks you should definitely check out the sale. If you bought any 2 for 1 audiobooks then let me know which you chose below! I would also love to know, what is your favourite audiobook?

Some Kind of Wonderful by Giovanna Fletcher is excellent. So is On the Come Up by Angie Thomas. I might do a recommendation post in the future!

I was really tempted to get On the Come Up! I do have the book on my shelf though so I will see whether I get to it before my next credit comes through. If not I’m pretty sure that will be my next buy. I will check out Some Kind of Wonderful! You should definitely do a recommendation post πŸ™‚

I love Audible! Audiobooks perfect for when I’m driving or cleaning or even just getting ready in a morning, and they’re great when there’s a book you really want to read but don’t think you’ll have time to sit and physically read. There are some fab picks here so I’m off to check it out!

Great post! I’m also picky when it comes to audiobook narrators but I’ve been listening to the Grisha Trilogy and am OBSESSED with the narrator. She does such an amazing job of making the world and characters come alive for me.

Ooo I will have to check that out thank you! I have only made it half way through the last book but a good narrator could definitely help draw me into it more.
