Top Picks – New Book Releases March 2019

How is it March?! February really flew by this year. As you know if you are a regular visitor to my I blog, I like to begin the month by sharing some exciting new book releases. There are some fantastic books to pick up this month that I have been excited about for ages.

Once & Future

Once & Future Book Cover

Title: Once & Future

Authors: Amy Rose Capetta & Cori McCarthy

Published: 26th March 2019

Publisher: Rock the Boat

Genre(s): YA, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Retelling

Synopsis: GoodReads link

Once & Future is one of the new book releases that I am most excited about. I was lucky enough to be gifted an ARC by the publisher so I am currently reading this one! It is a really fun King Arthur retelling set in space with a female Arthur and a Merlin that I find hilarious. This book has great representation including gender rep (female Arthur, gender fluid characters) as well as LGBTQIA+ rep with both gay and pan characters. I was sold as soon as I read the synopsis, so check it out.

The Sisterhood

The Sisterhood: a love letter to the women who have shaped me

Title: The Sisterhood: A Love Letter to the Women Who Have Shaped Me

Author: Daisy Buchanan

Published: 7th March 2019

Publisher: Headline

Genre: Nonfiction, Feminist Literature

The Sisterhood is another book that I was lucky enough to be gifted an ARC of and I have been enjoying it immensely. The portrayal of sisterly relationships in both literature and media are fascinating. Particularly when you can contrast it with your own reality of having a sibling! Daisy Buchanan has made me laugh out loud so many times with this book. Having an elder sister myself I have found it really interesting to read her experiences as the eldest sister in a family. I have a new appreciation for my sisters position in the household. There are so many parts of this book that I can identify with. It is a nice, short, easy read and if you are interested in sisterly relationships or feminist literature you should check it out.

Superman Dawnbreaker

Superman Dawnbreaker DC Icons Book 4 Cover

Title: Superman Dawnbreaker

Author: Matt de la Pena

Published: 5th March 2019

Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers

Genre: YA Fantasy

Synopsis: GoodReads link

I have to admit that I have a soft spot for anything Superman related. I was brought up on a Saturday night diet of The New Adventures of Superman. This book is the fourth in the DC Icons retellings and probably the one that I am most keen to read. Superman Dawnbreaker sounds like a classic retelling where Clark must discover the truth about himself so that he can save Smallville.

The Waking Forest

Title: The Waking Forest

Author: Alyssa Wees

Published: 12th March 2019

Publisher: Delacorte

Genre: YA Fantasy

Synopsis: GoodReads link

I love the synopsis of The Waking Forest! From the reviews that I have read it sounds like there are a lot of familiar elements for avid fantasy readers. It is full of my favourite fairy tale themes with a dark forest, a witch, secrets and wishes. Have a read of the synopsis and let me know if you are as excited as I am to pick this one up!

Bloodleaf

Title: Bloodleaf

Author: Crystal Smith

Published: 12th March 2019

Publisher: HMH Books for Young Readers

Genre: YA Fantasy

Synopsis: GoodReads link

Yes it is a fairy tale retelling! I did tell you that there were a lot of new book releases this year for fans of fairy tale retellings. Bloodleaf has been described as an ‘imaginative retelling’ of the traditional Grimm fairy tale The Goose Girl. I love it when authors focus on less well known fairy tales as I think you are more likely to read something original. I’m excited by the synopsis because I love the idea of blood-magic and a princess surrounded by spirits. She discovers a nefarious plot and, in true fairy tale fashion, she is the only one who can save the day. This will be book one in a trilogy so it is worth reading it sooner rather than later.

If you haven’t already seen my post featuring other fairy tale retellings releasing in 2019 you can read it here. I featured a mix of genres so there should be something for everyone!

Your Thoughts

I hope you are as excited about these new book releases as I am. There are a couple of other books that I debated adding to my March releases list as they are being released on kindle this month but their hardcovers aren’t out until next month. Which list would you rather that they appear in? I would be grateful to hear you thoughts on the subject as I have been very torn! Also, I would love to hear which new book releases you are excited about this month!

I didn’t know they were making a Superman book! I haven’t read anything from that series but I love that they are writing YA books about superheroes (even if I am a Marvel fan lol).
