Christmas Characters Tag!

Blogger Christmas Characters Tag

Angela over at Hiding Behind Books kindly tagged me in my first Christmas tag this year! It is a great way to get into the festive spirit. I know a lot of bloggers who are planning to take part in ‘blogmas’, where they post every day throughout December. It is definitely doable with some advanced planning but it is also a lot of hard work. Enter Bookend Events with their Bookending Winter 2018. I have to thank Angela and also Amanda at Devouring Books for introducing me to this much more manageable blogger event. Instead of posting every day throughout December bloggers can choose 3-5 posts based on the prompts provided! There are other elements you can take part in so I recommend heading over to Bookending Winter 2018 to find out more information! The Christmas Characters tag was created by Anthony at Keep Reading Forward.

Santa Claus  – A Gift You Received or Want This Year

A gift that I really, really want but will probably never receive is the original UK Hardcover edition of The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. I am absolutely in love with the Wayfarers series. It honestly means a lot to me. When I read the first book on kindle I never thought that I would not be able to buy the hardback in the future. I have the other two books in hardback and would love the first to complete my collection. The dream is that one day I may be able to collect the set of ARCs too. I think it will be my Christmas wish for a long time!

Mrs Clause – A Favourite Holiday Treat to Have Every Year

Roast Dinner! I love sitting round the table with my family at Christmas and having a meal of epic proportions. Roast parsnips, mash potato, peas, carrots, nut roast, Tofurky, gravy and a bunch of other things! My eyes are always too big for my stomach but it is handy having two well trained puppies under the table to help with an overloaded plate. My Golden Retriever, Penny, says she has been training for it all year.

Ghost of Christmas Past – A Holiday Memory from Your Past

A very random memory but when I was a toddler my Christmas present was a toy fishing set. It had a wooden rod and three plastic fish. My Dad had to go and hook the fish on the rod so I could reel them in. Obviously, I could have played that game all day. My Dad was a good sport but clearly must have been bored out of his mind! It is a really odd memory to have such a strong attachment too. I used to think it was about the toy but now I think is more about the quality time I spent with my Dad.

Buddy the Elf –  A Holiday Song You Like to Sing Each Holiday Season

“The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.”

Ha! Each holiday season?! More like at all times of the year if a Christmas tune appears in my head. Let’s face it, Christmas songs are meant to be catchy. The one I really like to sing though is from a play called “The Flint Street Nativity”. I performed it with my drama group a few years ago and it is absolutely hilarious. It is based in a primary school where the children are putting on the Nativity for their school Christmas play. All the girls want to be Mary, especially my character who ends up being cast as the angel Gabriel. She has a song, which is sung to the tune of Away in a Manger called A Way to Kill Mary. It is brilliant! There is a film version and some great clips on YouTube if you want a giggle.

Misfit Toys – An Unpopular Toy You Really Wanted to Get One Year

I really wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid doll. It wasn’t that they were unpopular necessarily but they were in my year group. All of the girls had grown out of playing with dolls and other similar toys. I on the other hand was always happy to hide in a corner and make up some new adventures. I guess I should have wanted a notepad and pen to write some of the stories down instead!

Grinch – A Moment When Your Heart Grew Three Sizes

I can’t pick a specific moment for this one. I do feel it every year though when I visit my best friend’s house and swap gifts with his family. They love seeing the dogs and they treat me like family. Every one of them has a huge heart. I feel privileged to spend Christmas morning with them every year. I love them dearly.

Jack Frost – A Tradition You Like to Do Ever Winter

Every year I go to pick out a Christmas tree with my best friend. I also always name the tree. This years is called ‘Fironica’ and I’m looking forward to seeing it decorated.

Hero Boy – A Moment You Believed in a Holiday Wish/Miracle

My partner is not a fan of Christmas. He has good reasons but it always makes me a little sad inside as it has always been a relatively happy time for me. One morning recently however he asked me “Do you like stockings?” Assuming I knew where this was going I just looked at him. He promptly corrected himself “I mean Christmas stockings that you hang on the fireplace!” It turns out that he had a festive dream and really wants to hang Christmas stockings. That might not seem much but believe me when I say that is a holiday miracle in this house!

Cindy Lou Who – A Favourite Holiday Tradition

I have never really thought of the things we do around Christmas as traditions, even though we do many of the same things each year. As it is our first full Christmas holiday together my partner and I want to create some of our own traditions. We want a project to do together over the holidays. As a present to ourselves we are going to get a Lego set each year and build it together. We are starting with a small set and so we can see how it goes!

Frosty the Snowman – A Memory Involving Snow or A Memory You Would Like to Have Involving Snow

This one is a little bittersweet. I remember it snowing every year when I was young. I remember one holiday in particular where the snow was glorious but I was poorly. My Mum wouldn’t let me out of the house so I had to watch from the window as my Dad built a snowman with my sister in the front garden. I wish I could have been outside with them but I also like having the memory of watching them have fun together.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – A Holiday Activity You Like Doing

I love giving presents! I know you are not supposed to say presents…. It is less about the receiving though and much more about the giving. I always put a lot of thought into gifts and I love making people happy.

Ebenezer Scrooge – “Bah, Humbug!” A Favourite Holiday Saying or Quote

My favourite saying is from Bridget Jones’ Diary, which is one of my favourite Christmas films (though it is good the rest of the year too) and I think counts “I like you very much. Just as you are.”

awhh I really loved this post !
Alike you, Alex’s family is full onto christmas while for us … it’s just a normal day; we dont do anything really special as we are only me & my parents around here usually. As everyone else’s has gone home for the holidays, yet we cannot as either me and/or dad is working x) Knowing how some people do really fun stuff around christmas time kind of make me sad too in a way, as my family is kind of bleh on that side (also doubled that with my birthday on the 27th..)

This is the first time I’ve heard of naming the Christmas tree, and I adore the idea! Hope Fironica looks amazing, now I have to think of a name for mine ๐Ÿ™‚
